Capercaillie/Blackcock hunting proposals in Russia in Vologda region. ERL Merkel’s hunting trips.

Capercaillie huntings are provided with the help of professional hunters (PHs) at specific forest places in mating bird season (the end of April — the beginning of May). Early in the morning a hunter comes with a professional hunter to the place in the forest where birds mating processes are going (capercaillies are singing their songs and fighting between each other) and hunters try to approach to the capercaillie invisibly and quietly during capercaillie song to the good distance for shot.

Mode of hunting: the hunting is held at the birds’ courtship time early in the morning (at 2-3 in the morning) or in the evening. Hunters creep to a singing capercaillie and at the distance 30-35 metres shoot. Hunters hunt on a blackcock from a hut (blind) siting there quietly and waiting for the moment for good shot during blackcock dancing.
